Ice Cave

Ice Cave

The shimmer of the blue ice deep within an ice cave at the base of a glacier.  Ice caves are formed during the warmer months when glacier melt water flows down through crevices in the glacier. This melt water carves out open cathedrals and underground mazes of glistening carved ice. The more melt water which flows through the glacier the greater the erosion. This is why ice caves are constantly changing. The electric blue colour is due to glacier ice being so compact and containing little to no air. This results in only blue wavelengths of light passing through the ice.
